Privacy Policy

This policy explains what BareInvestfolio ("the app", "we", "us") does with information. Silicon Hallway Pty Ltd (ABN 76 680 069 265) is responsible for the app. By using the app you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

The short version

  • Your portfolio stays on your device. Accounts, holdings, transactions, notes and profiles are stored locally and are never uploaded to us.
  • There is no sign-up, no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no cookies.
  • The app asks public market-data services for prices. Those requests carry the tickers it needs, not your balances or who you are.
  • Crash reports are optional and do not identify you. You choose when you first open the app and can change it any time in Settings > About.

Information that stays on your device

Everything you enter or import (accounts, assets, quantities, prices, transactions, tax details, profile names and photos, settings) is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. We cannot see it. It is part of your device's own backup if you have device backup turned on (for example Google or iCloud backup), under your operating system's settings and the backup provider's terms. You are responsible for keeping your device secure. Exporting data to a file, and sharing that file, is your choice and your responsibility. Deleting a profile, or the app, removes its data from the device.

Information the app sends

To show prices and charts the app contacts these services. They receive the ticker symbols, currencies and date ranges needed for the request, and the text you type when you search for an asset, and, as with any internet request, your device's IP address and technical details such as the app's user-agent. They do not receive your holdings, balances, transactions or any name or email.

  • Crypto prices: Binance public market data, and CoinGecko for coin details and images.
  • Stock and ETF prices: Yahoo Finance.
  • Exchange rates: Frankfurter.
  • Company logos: Financial Modeling Prep image host and CoinGecko images.
  • Pro price data (Pro tier only): requests go to our own TradeScope service. It receives the tickers requested, and a token that proves your Pro entitlement. purchase receipts from the App Store or Google Play are sent to TradeScope to verify your subscription, and the stores handle payment; we never see your card details. TradeScope may keep standard server logs (IP address, time, requested tickers) for security and reliability for 12 months.

Those services have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for them. The app does not log in to your brokerage or bank, and never asks for those credentials. Linking to third-party sites or files does not mean we endorse them.

Crash reports (optional)

If "Share crash reports" is on, the app sends crash reports that do not identify you to Google Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix problems. A report holds the technical details of the failure (the type of error, the code location, the device model, operating system and app version, and a random installation id that the Firebase SDK creates: it tells reports from one installation apart, but it is not your name, email or account). It never contains your portfolio or transaction data, and the error message text is removed before sending. Reports are processed by Google as our service provider under Google's terms. You can turn this off at any time in Settings > About; turning it off also discards any report still waiting on the device. Debug and development builds never send reports. We do not use Firebase Analytics.

What we do not do

We do not run advertising, sell or share your information, build advertising profiles, track you across apps or websites, or use cookies, device advertising ids, IMEI, MAC addresses, your contacts or your location. The app does not use forums, social sign-in or marketing email, and does not ask you to create an account.

Permissions

The app asks for network access to fetch prices. It asks for access to your photos or files only when you choose to add a profile photo, an icon, or to import or export a file, and only reads what you select.

Contacting us

If you email us (for example for support) we receive your email address and what you tell us. We use it only to reply, and keep it only as long as needed to handle your request. We do not use it for marketing.

Your choices and rights

You control your data: edit or delete it in the app, export it, or uninstall the app. Because we hold no portfolio data about you, there is nothing for us to return or erase from our side, except anything in crash reports (which are not linked to you) and any email you sent us. Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and its Australian Privacy Principles you may ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you, and if you are not satisfied with how we handle a complaint you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK you may have similar rights under local law. Contact us at contact@siliconhallway.com.au and we will respond within 5 business days.

Security

The app keeps your data in private app storage and sends requests over encrypted connections (HTTPS) in production builds. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your device locked and updated.

Children

The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

International transfers

Our service providers (Google for crash reports, and the market-data providers above) operate in several countries, including the United States. By using the app you understand your IP address and the request data above may be processed there.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date and version above and, if the change is material, tell you in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
